Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital" Brings Spine-Chilling Thrills to CDO Moviegoers This Christmas

This Christmas, prepare for a horror experience like no other as “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital” lands on the big screen as part of the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). Starting December 25, horror enthusiasts in Cagayan de Oro City and neighboring areas can enjoy jump-scares and heart-pounding moments perfect for the season.

The 90-minute “meta found footage” film was shot using multiple GoPro cameras, creating an immersive experience that places viewers in the shoes of the characters. The setting? Taiwan’s infamous Xinglin Hospital, a location steeped in eerie legends and abandoned for over two decades.

A Unique Horror Experience

Unlike typical MMFF offerings, this “GoCam-horror” flick takes a bold leap into the “experience-horror” genre. Filipino audiences can expect high-octane suspense as the film plunges into the pitch-black interiors of Xinglin Hospital. Located in Tainan City’s West Central District, the hospital is notorious for ghostly sightings, including a wailing old lady said to haunt its 7th-floor atrium.

The story follows seven brave (or foolish) personalities, including five real-life celebrities and two online influencers from the Philippines. Their mission? To live-stream their exploration of the haunted hospital, aiming to rack up views and prove whether the chilling rumors of paranormal activity are true. But as the darkness closes in, the group finds they are not alone, and their adventure takes a horrifying turn.

Local Connection and Familiar Faces

This Philippine adaptation of the Korean hit “Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum” stars Enrique Gil as the group’s leader. Joining him are actors Jane De Leon, Rob Gomez, Alexa Miro, beauty queen MJ Lastimosa, and internet sensations Raf Pineda and Zarckaroo.

Zarckaroo, a popular content creator with over 1.6 million YouTube subscribers and nearly 2 million Facebook followers, is particularly well-known for exploring haunted and offbeat locations, making him a perfect fit for the film. Fans in CDO will recognize his fearless, relatable style that adds a local flavor to this international project.

A Production Worth Watching

Produced by the powerhouse duo Erik Matti and Dondon Monteverde of Reality MM Studios—known for “Seklusyon” and “Kuwaresma”—the film promises top-notch storytelling and visuals. The production also features the creative input of BJ Song, CEO of Creative Leaders Group 8, adding an international flair to the adaptation.

The film earned international recognition when it was featured in Variety last October, cementing its reputation as a must-watch.

Watch It in CDO Cinemas

Catch “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital” at cinemas across Cagayan de Oro City, including SM City CDO Uptown and SM CDO Downtown Premier. Don’t miss this thrilling MMFF entry that’s sure to keep audiences gripping their seats.

So gather your friends and brave the darkness this holiday season—it’s an experience you won’t forget. Just be ready for the screams to follow you all the way home.
